Default Improving MPGs

I have a 2003 F150 Fx4 5.4L 3.73 gear and I am looking to get better MPGs. I drive about 66 miles a day to and from work. I average about 15.5 MPGs right now stock. I would love to be able to hit 20. I use to have a 96 S-10 and got 22-27 MPG highway. I don't miss the truck but miss the MPGs. Any suggestions?

I know driving easier is the key but I have no patience to do that. Since i've had this truck i have driven nicer but that only gives me about 1/2mpg gain. How much have you seen with just a cold-air intake or a programmer? My truck is stock except for a tonneau cover and a DVD player in the back. I have been looking at a K&N FIPK 57 series CAI and Hypertech Max Energy E-con programmer. Does anyone know if these are good buys?

i agrree, hypertech might as well be called walmartech. exhaust might work better with the intake than the chip, not sure. or chip and just replace the muffler n maybe just replace muffler with pipe , i think it can down to that the catilalitic converters are enough back presure? dont quote me?just a thought

Obusnizzle I see you have a Xcal3 in your 2007. What kind of mileage are you seeing on your truck compared to stock? But how do you guys feel about the K&N CAI? Do you know the mileage gain from that?

I drive on the I-280 every day and my cruising speed is 72 so that is about the mileage I am looking for. Also you said tailgate up, do you have a tonneau cover? If not I might be able to get better mileage than that. How much did all of your tuning set you back?

No intake or exhaust mod is going to help your gas milage. 15.5 mpg is actually pretty decent.
If you dont have the patience to drive slower, then you are stuck with the milage you are getting.
Sorry, but there is no magic mod that is going to gain you 4.5 mpg.
