Default Ignition Key tumbler code(s)

Can the parts department, will the parts department, lookup your ignition tumber key code for you? I need to build the new one and it would be easier knowing the individual 1-8 tumbler numbers.

Not the door code folks.

I realize I would most likely need to go in person and bring ID and title.

Can they? Yes.

Will they? Not my Parts Dept.

The keys come with a tag that most dealers remove (mine did).

Mine used to, but now they just use a normal duplicating machine. But the cylinder kits I buy now come with instructions for reading the key yourself, to select the tumblers:

You can buy a gauge for measuring the key cuts, but it has to be specific to Ford of the era you're working on.

Yep got the kit yesterday and I was thinking that if I got the tumbler numbers, it would be easier. Thanks

Maybe if you tear apart the old cylinder - I'm not sure if OE tumblers have numbers stamped into them.

Thanks, yes that is an option, but I think I have it figured out. I have a key decoder coming today to try and verify my efforts. It appears that once you insert the spring and tumbler, it locks it in. If you dont use the springs, you can then insert the key and if the tumblers remain flat, you apparently have them correct.

I was hoping to gain the attention of the one member here that works in parts area, have him shed some light on this.

Thanks
