Default I never knew....

Dropped my truck off today to have the plow frame installed. When I stopped later in the day to pick it up. The grill was still off and behind the grill there is a rotating louver grid-two rows of louvers that are attached with electronics and as the truck needs more or less air the louvers rotate....I have only seen this on a semi trucks I think. I never new my new F150 had this. To me it will get plugged with snow or wet and freeze open or shut....wow..something else to go bad or break....Did anyone else know the new Fords had this ???

It was featured in an article I read about the new 2015 before it was available for sale. I originally thought it may have been just an idea they tried out on the concept truck. They called it "Active grille shutters that balance cooling needs."

Not sure if this is where I read about it but it's mentioned http://truckyeah.jalopnik.com/2015-f...-it-1500041018

It's probably also mentioned in that book no one ever reads, (owners manual)
.

It is actually installed to improve gas mileage. On a cold day, instead of the air rattling around in the engine compartment, it goes around the outside of the front. More aerodynamic. Discussed in the 2015 thread.

If you disagree, talk to Ford and
Other manufacturers using active grille shutters include General Motors, Chrysler, BMW, Honda, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercedes and Rolls-Royce.
not me!!

I totally agree with you though. It sure seems like something can get messed up pretty good, being right at the front of the truck. Two weeks ago, while scouting my hunting land, I was driving through tallgrass, higher than my fenders, and also had to knock a few rows of cornstalks down. The tow hooks and front bumper were packed with stuff. It wouldn't take much for me to destroy some plastic louvers.

The other morning we has 31* here...I started my truck then went right to the front grill...sure enough the louvers were shut tight...after 2 minutes the truck engine lowered the rpm's....and the louvers opened. I might spend more time staring into the grill then driving it...
