How long should I give my mechanic?
Dropped the truck off on Monday around 4:45 pm for a cranking issue. Mechanic said he’d look at sometime Tuesday morning.
closing hour approaches on Tuesday with no word from the mechanic, so I call them. He said he didn’t have time to get to it.
Its getting near the end of the work day again(Wednesday) and still no word.
How long do I wait? I called Monday and asked for an appointment to avoid my truck sitting there. The owner said to bring it down whenever I want. The shop has good reviews, but this is annoying me.

You certainly don't want to burn bridges but I would call - If local maybe stop by. Above all be nice about it - never know what caused the delay.

It really depends. I believe it is best to have a good relationship with your mechanic, dentist and doctor BEFORE you need them. The guy I use is a small one man operation and sometimes stuff ahead of me takes longer than anticipated. But the guy knows his stuff and works for about 2/3 the hourly rate of the big garages. If it is a bigger garage with multiple mechanics then work should be in a timely manner.
Just remember,
you can get it done right
get it done cheap
or get it done fast.
Pick 2, you can't have all 3.

If this in your only daily driver with no back up vehicles, i can see the frustration.
This has happened to me on multiple occasions with a particular independent shop.
From what i can tell, they get newer quicker simpler 'emergency' jobs done first with their favorite customers before working on my vehicle.
Making sometimes a week's advance appointment with that shop hasn't helped at all.
First come, first served seems to have gone out the window with that shop.
What has helped somewhat is to pay a visit in person.
Phoning ''when is it gonna be done' is usually futile at least with that shop.
Sometimes the squeaky wheel doesn't always get the grease.
By the way i quit using that shop.

I will give him till lunch tomorrow. If I hear nothing back, I’ll call him and tell him he can disregard any planned work and I’ll pick it up after I get off.
