Hey guys. I have an 06 FX4 extended cab. How can I determine if my bed is 5.5' or 6.5'?

measure your thumb, then see how many times your thumb goes across.

How tall are you?
If you're 6'....
Lay in the bed and close the gate;
If you're not scrunched up, it's 6 1/2, if you are, it's 5 1/2

Lay in the bed with your feet against the cab. Have somebody slam the tailgate shut.
If it hurts, you have the 5.5' bed, if it doesn't you have the 6.5'.

Go to a hardware store. Drop $600-$1000 on a laser level/laser measure. Spend the extra on the custom Tripod... should be another $300. Set it all up and your good to go.

The best and easiest way is park beside another truck like your's, and ask them if their truck is long or short box

Ok first you and the other cheerleaders unbolt the bed stand it on end. Go get an engineering student, ask them if they can tell you how tall it is then. At that point its as tall as it will be long when you bolt it back in to place....
