Default How To: Disable Auto Start Stop

Some people don't like the Auto Start Stop, some people don't mind. This is for the people who don't like it and want it disabled.

There are many ways to disable it. I simply compiled a few of the most common to explain to new users.

1) Unplug the connector on the negative battery terminal.

This is a viable short term option, but this connection is for the Battery Monitoring System. Unplugging it disables the BMS, and in turn, the A.S.S. Your truck will work just fine without the BMS, but you will lose the smart monitoring and management of your battery. This means your truck won't shut down accessories when it's voltage drops, and charging won't be as intelligent. We've gone years with out these features so I'm sure it's fine, but just be aware what you're losing. (Many people mistakenly believe this connector is specifically for the A.S.S., so I just wanted to clear the air that it is not.)

2) Unplug the 2 wire connector near the brake pedal

This is my least favorite method. This connector is for the trailer lights circuit and will disable trailer lights while towing. It also throws several silent DTCs. While not a big deal, if you tow frequently this would be annoying to constantly unplug and plug back in, but more importantly, if you forgot to plug it back in you would be towing without brake lights.

3) Forscan BMS disable

Similar to unplugging the connector at the battery, but doing it via software. You also have the option of disabling the button all together, and then removing the menu from the screen in the gauge cluster.

4) Start Stop Eliminator

This is my personal favorite method. There are several commercial products available, or you can easily create your own with a jumper wire.

By jumping 2 wires (white and purple) on the connector for the for A.S.S. button, you can make the truck believe the disable button has been pressed every time the truck starts.

This method is easily reversible, and doesn't mess with any other vehicle systems. This is why it gets my vote.

I hope this is helpful to some people out there.
