Still, 3.73 costs more so I'm sure you paid a small premium based on that.

My 2018 does not have a tag on the diff. When all else fails jack up the rear end and turn a wheel 360 degrees while counting how many times the driveshaft turns.

They stopped using the metal tags on the bolt, the 09-14 have a decal wrapped around the axle tube on the passenger side, don't know for sure if the newer trucks have the same thing or not. Example below.

Gonna have my step-son look into this for me. The pre-certified window sticker also says it has auto-locking hubs. The code on the door post identifies the rear end as a 3.31 open differential. Doesn't appear I have auto-locking hubs.

When we were looking at all the trucks the day we bought this one, I happened to take pictures of all the window stickers on the trucks we were interested in. Going to do a little research on those VINs and see what I find.

Did the window sticker's VIN match that of the truck? If anything, perhaps you could get the price differential returned to you... maybe... might take step-son writing a letter on official letterhead to get the point across.

Post a pic of the truck's door sticker.

not sure, but a diff. could be an open diff and still have auto-locking hubs.

Hmmm, guess I need to educate myself a little more. I put an auto locking differential in my Jeep. I guess auto locking hubs would be different. Thanks.

Edit to add :Ok, just refreshed my understanding of locking hubs. I was confusing locking differentials with hubs. My bad. Thanks for showing me my error.

Yes, auto locking hubs are different than a locking diff. Depending on what Jeep you had, you either had manual locking hubs or full time hubs that were always locked. A hub that can unlock will uncouple the hub (i.e. tire; usually just on the front axle) from the axleshaft. This prevents the gears in the differential and the front output side of the transfer case from spinning all the time. Reduces wear and tear and increases fuel efficiency.

All of the newer model 4x4 F150s have auto locking hubs (Ford calls them Integrated Wheel Ends, or IWE's) that are vacuum actuated. Without vacuum applied, the hubs are locked, and with vacuum applied the hubs are unlocked. They are still unit a unit bearing design, so you don't "see" the locking portion of the hub sticking through the center of the wheel like older trucks.

So, now that I have mad a mountain out of a mole hill .... Off to a great start here on the forum! (Not so much.)

Misprint/typo/mistake on the axle ratio is not something I am going to get worked up about. I do appreciate all the comments and information provided. Think I'll take some time and enjoy my new (to me) F150.
