Hitch Q!
i have a '06 f150 FX4 and it didn't come with a tow package!
bought the hitch, now how do i hook up the wiring so i can attach a 7 way plug from a trailer to my truck?? right now all i have is a 4 way wire hanging from the back of the bumper. in other words the trailer has electronic brakes, how do i get them to work with my truck?

I am in the process of doing this as well. What you will need is the 7-pin trailer harness from Ford, either via stealership or online somewhere else. The instructions to install is very easy.
You remove your spare to gain access to the old 4-pin harness. There is a ground wire coming off of that pigtail; remove it from the frame. Next, there is a small round (quarter size diameter) connection that must be undone. Last, at the opposite end of the pigtail then from the 4-pin, there is a LARGE connection, unpplug this. Reverse for install of the 7+4-pin harness. At the new end of the harness, where the 2 trailer pins are, there is a large round connection (whole dollar size if not larger). This plugs into the back of the actual 4&7 pin connection that you see typically mounted on the hitch. That one connection covers the 2 trailer pins, just connect either side and you are good to go.
Also, the trucks are pre-wired for electronic brake controllers. There is a square pin, 1"x1", under the bottom panel below the steering wheel. Connect your TBC to that and you now have control of your trailer brakes!
I am about to complete this install this weekend. My harness came in yesterday. Hope this helps out. Drop me a line anytime if you have questions during the install.

I have a friend at uhaul(where I got everything). I am istalling the hitch today, hope I don't run into any problems!!
As for the wiring.... There is a helpfull YouTube video that I am going to use as a guideline... If you need the help type in: installing a break controller on a f150... and I think it's the second one down. He installs it on a '08 stx with no tow package!
Good luck!! I know I'm going to need it!! Haha
