Default higher RPM's engine cuts out

2013 Eco Boost FX4. Higher RPM's engine starts to cough a bit and I loose power. Check engine light comes on until I slow down and stop. Check engine light goes off and back to normal. Don't get into that higher rpm area very often so I just noticed it. Truck has 70K on it and has regular oil changes and thats about it. Any thoughts on what it might be?

Might check and see if has any stored codes.

You didn't mention if you've ever put a new set of spark plugs in it. I would start there.

More info would help. What are 'high RPM's'? My 2.7 regularly sees 6000 folks I know never above 3000. Only oil changes, no other service? Plugs may well be marginal after 70000. KM

If this is ongoing/repeatable then it's probably spark plugs. If it's occasional/random I'd suspect you're getting condensate build up in the CAC (intercooler) and its getting sucked into the engine. If it's neither of those, your fuel filter might be clogging up,

To determine if you have any stored codes take your truck to AutoZone (or any other auto parts store) and ask them to check for any DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) stored in your trucks computer. It's free. They will give you a printout. Post the DTCs here and you will get replies as to how to resolve these issues, if any.

Sparks are the 1st questionable, in spite of factory opinion the life is not that long. I switch at 10-20 k miles, cheap insurance. Some regularly mention condensation build up in the CAC and intake plumbing, I have no such buildup in 38000 miles but may be an outlier. Simply pulling the lowers hose off the CAC will reveal any. After those simple maintenance jobs would come checking coils for track/arcing. An OBD2 scan even from AutoZone will bring up data codes, cheap and easy. KM
