High-Mileage & Common Issues
I have a 2015 F-150 XLT 4X4 with the 2.7 Ecoboost, bought new and now running a little over 104,000 miles. Aside from some annoyances in the brakes/rotors wearing out quickly, the truck has been running smoothly. This past week, however, we have just encountered our first major repair (oil leak), with a bill a little over $5k.
This has brought my wife and I into the conversation of “is it time to upgrade to a new vehicle - and put that $5k towards it or just foot the bill and continue with my truck as we have been.” I’d prefer to fix and keep the truck as it’s fully payed for. She’d prefer to entertain a trade to another vehicle.
Cost aside, I am curious from others what the outlook on a 2015 2.7 looks like beyond the 100k mark. I’ve searched Google, but am having a hard time finding the most common high-ticket items to go out on my particular model. Knowing we could be spending another 5-10k in the upcoming 20-30,000 miles could help reinforce a decision on what we do next. Or vice versa, knowing most problems don’t occur until much later in its life could help lean towards keeping.
Thanks in advance!

The 2.7 is super solid. One of the most reliable engines in these trucks. If this is the plastic oil pan leaking, I’d probably just get something new though. It’s seems a lot of people are back two, three, four plus times to have it re done.
if the leak is something else, I’d get it fixed and keep driving it a little longer if you like it.

High mileage (approaching 300k) you will be way past due for a timing chain, water pump, rear main seal.
My 2005 I had almost 300k miles on it, and in 2015, during the last year of ownership I went through an alternator (second one), water pump, a couple O2 sensors, one of which caused the cat to completely clog and require replacement, and the rear main seal started leaking and second set of u-joints. I never fixed the rear main seal. This wasn't a turbo engine, so i'm not terribly sure what kind of longevity people get out of them, but I hear lots of timing chain issues
