Default HID Bulbs

I have a 2001 5.4 l XLT regular cab. If I buy HID bulbs will they plug in to the factory socket in place of my regular bulbs or do i need to replace it with something else. HID's are new to me any info will greatly be appreciated.

Ok, HID plug and play kits come with bulbs and ballasts. The factory headlight bulb connector plugs into the ballast and then wires come out of the ballast and go to the bulb.
