Default Help me decide!

Hi all - new to the forum. Great site! I have a 2002 F-150 SuperCrew Lariat. White with gold two tone. Really pretty truck with a hard cover on it. JUST turned 50k miles (I know, I know, but I work out of my house!). I'm pretty on top of keeping our auto's clean and some might call me a little neurotic.

I have a couple of offers for $10k for my truck. Blue book in the condition its in lists $10k as a great amount (more than I'd get for trade in most likely!).

The new F150 2009's are sweet. I'm looking specifically at an all white (Oxford) Lariat w/chrome pkg and 20" tires or possibly the Platinum. I know I'd keep it spit clean and most likely, my 5 yr old would drive it in 11 years or so.

Grew up as a farm kid with the "only get what you need, not what you want" in my ear all the time and am really struggling with dumping my 02 and picking up a new one.

Guess I'm just on here to see what people think. I know I'll get both answers....but wondering if the jump up from the 02 to the 09 is worth it. Don't use it for much other than driving around town and pulling boats/trailers every now and again. Cost isn't a major concern, but I can't get that pesky farm mentality outta my head! I guess its true what they say about taking the boy outta the country...

Thanks..and great site!
Tony in Texas....

Welcome aboard. Let's see some pics. Sound like a nice truck and it's not even broken in.

I would say keep it. Theres nothing wrong with it so why spend the money on a new one? Spend the money on something else. just my .02

Well if you can afford it why not. I have a problem giving up my truck because I've created a bond with my truck, I couldn't sell it if I had too.

If it wasn't for loving my truck, not having problems, etc. I would get an 09 but I have no issues with my truck and dread the day I get rid of it.

Default Well Served Point:

That "pesky farm mentality" has probably served you well....no harm in keeping on with it.

I "suffer" from the same syndrom to the extent that I have not bought a new car or truck for over 30 years....saved a lot of money and got some sweet deals in other peoples' unwise cast-offs.

I would say keep it unless there is a deep rooted issue with you keeping it.

Keep the thing.. No more than you drive it, it's not worth spending the money. If you have the money, buy yourself a nice older muscle car and restore it. Least that's what I would do.

I'm also of the mindset to keep things until I need to replace them. For me the deciding factor would be whether or not I had to take on car payments to get a new truck. If I had to take on several hundred dollars a month in car payments to get a new truck to replace the truck that worked just fine, I'm not sure I'd feel like it was the right thing to to.
