Default Help! E4OD transmission problems!

I recently installed 2 e4od transmissions in my 92 f-150 from a junk yard. The first one was just that, pure junk, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and traded it in for another. This second tranny will only go from first to second gear, but not third, and also has "sudden neutral" problems. Also, the engine usually stalls when I put it in gear. I have bench tested the manual lever position sensor, the resistances check out ok, and I installed a ground strap from the tranny to the chassis just incase. On the original transmission, there is some sort of sensor near the tailstock but it was not connected and worked ok without it before the tranny gave out. What is this sensor called? This "new" tranny has one also but the connectors dont match. Could this Also, any other advice on my problems would be tremendously appreciated!
