Headliner Removal and Install

Headliner
I have a 1997 F150 ext cab. I need to remove the headliner I guess. I'm trying to install a new 3rd light but I can't get to the harness enough to disconnect it and connect the new one. VERY VERY FRUSTRATING!!! It's pretty said that a headliner has to be removed just to install a replacement 3rd light. Does anyone have any different enlightening information on installing a new or replacement third light?

In my experience you remove it from the outside of the truck. It's typically (2) screws and a plug to swap out one of these. The headliner usually has nothing to so with it.
I don't have a '97 so I certainly could be wrong.

What is going on is, I'm trying to replace the WHOLE thing. Wire harness included but the connector won't come to the opening to disconnect it. So obviously I have to remove the headliner. Just looking for some removal instructions with pics possibly.
