checked the bulb, did what you said and still nothing. I'm really starting to think that the problem is in the column like we talked about. However, I would really hate to start pulling steering wheel and messing with airbags. Are you sure that you need to do that just to get at those parts? Call me a baby, but im kind of skeptical to start palying with an airbag considering it may end up in my face LOL. I thought that I would be able to get at that stuff by removing the plastic casing around the column. Just wondering if you have ever had to do a repair like this one?

Best thing to do if ur nervous is buy a manual. Get a Haynes dont waste your money on a Chilton. I have the console shift, so I'm not going to be able to walk you through it. Its really not a difficult process, but there are a lot of wires in there, esp if you have cruise or radio controlls. Good luck, keep us posted.

Chilton's is published by Haynes. It's basically the same book depending on your model and year.

WHAO! I've notice that no one has told him to unplug his battery before he messes with the area where the airbag is. And also not to re plug it back in before everything is back together or the airbag light will go on. If the airbag goes off while your working on the column it could break your neck. Take every precaution that you can when you're around airbags. They are super dangerous to be working around.

How do you figure that?
Haynes is owned and published by Haynes
Chilton sold out to Cenage Learning a few years ago.
In my experiences haynes has by far better instructions and almost every mulit-meter reading for testing good or bad components.

As far as the battery disconnect, that should be done before any service is performed on any electric component.

haha, thanks for the tips guys. i was actually just going to take it into a shop after hearing all this stuff about dealing with this airbag. i was talking to one of my buddies at work and he assured me that by removing the leads to the battery and then turning the key to the on position would drain any excess power that could possibly be left in the system there would be no way that the airbag could deploy. just thought that it would be a helpful tip to anyone else reading up on this thread for steering wheel removal. i think i feel alot better about doing this repair now so i figure that i might try and do it myself now knowing this helpful tip. my buddy also had the same problem with his f150 and also told me to check all the leads in the wiring harnesses in the column as well. he said that if you have tilt steering the f150's from 04-08 have short wires in the column causing the leads in the harneses to pull apart if the tilt was used alot by previous owners ect. just thought i would share some useful information for anyone else having the same problem. i am going to buy the haynes manual this weekend and a multimetre to check all of my connections before i start with the ugly. thank you guys very much for all of the useful information. it has been a great help, and i will keep you all posted and let you know what i find.
