Question H-Pipe for true duals

I have a 98 F150 that I am going to run true duals with headers on. I called Summit to order my exhaust parts and he reccomended that if I was going to run true duals with headers that I needed to install an H-Pipe to even out the backpressure. Can anybody tell me if the H-pipe will effect the sound of my exhaust?

From what I've read it doesn't really effect the flow or pressure but instead, its main purpose is to even out the tone of the exhaust. Running true duals with no mid pipe is fine but often sounds raspy and not very smooth. The addition of an h-pipe is suppose to solve that by giving it a deeper smoother tone.
