Default Gear shift problems

I have a 2004 f-150 lariat 5.4. It will not come out of park. The button on shifter will not press to be able to put it into a gear. My question is- does anyone know why this is, is it an easy fix? I do push brake pedal and end result is the same. Sometimes after some wiggling around it will eventually go into gear. Thanks in advance for any help on this.

You have a bad brake shift interlock switch. I had the same problem with my 04. This in a known issure with the 04. You can take the top of the console off around the shifter (it just pops off) to get to the release botton down inside on the left side of the shifter. It is a white button that you press down on and then you can shift into gear. The switch is located below that button and is very easy to replace once you take the top and sides of the console apart. If you google o4 f150 brake shift interlock you will find all kinds of info.
