Default Garmin or TomTom? which one and why?

Hey,

Please post if you have an aftermarket GPS installed, and why you chose the brand you did.

Does anyone use the newer voice activated commands in the TomTom, and how do you like that feature?

My uncle drove down Saturday using a garmin

His garmin would not find "ft worth" so he had to look up "dallas/fort worth." And he couldn't find his apartment address using the zip code.

I've had no personal experience with the garmin but I have been happy with tomtom every time i've used one

I find the TomToms too cartoonish and simple. I guess with a name like TomTom that's no surprise.

Tom Tom works better in Europe, while Garmin works better for North America! I have used both in various countries and that is my conclusion.

I've only ever had one so I can't compare.
I bought a TomTom XXL550 Dec 16 and used it for 3 road trips.
I like it fine and use the voice freature.
And you can buy other voices like Homer simpsons, Mr Burns ...

Out of the two I would say Garmin. That's what I have and love mine. I know a couple people who own Tom Tom's and say they have problems with not finding certain roads/towns and them sending you some ***** backwards routes to places

I originally bought a TomTom and returned it because it simply would not work well. Since then I have bought two vehicle Garmins (one for wife's car and another for my motorcycle and truck) and they function very well. I am so impressed with the Garmins that when the time came for a handheld GPS unit for hiking/hunting I went with a Garmin again and have not been let down.
