Question FX4 vs. XLT

Other than price, what is does the FX4 offer? what am I missing?

I did search on the ford.com site, and couldn't find a good description, figured some owners of the FX4 might be able to help.

Well, is the XLT 4x4? Fx4 usually has an interior upgrade package, as well as a different suspension. Fx4 are always 5.4 as far as I know and are always 4x4. Hope i didnt point out the obvious with the 4x4 but the Xlt is not always 4x4.

Oh, the gearing may be different as well as the tire/rim package.

A guy I work with has a truck just like mine, except his is an 02 FX4 and mine is a 01 4x4 (not sure if they had FX4 in 2001). Both are Lariats. The only difference he and I could find in them is the skiff plates and the rancho shocks. Other than that, mine had the same coolers, same suspension, same cooling system, same motor, just about everything except the skiff plates and shocks. The are even the same color, except his is a darker gold on the 2 tone than mine.

Price: He bought his a year before I bought mine for 13K with 80K on the clock. I bought mine for 7900 bucks out the door with 109K on the clock.

Mine is actually nicer package than his though, has more options.

Basically: price and some shocks and skiff plates, on the older models anyway. Oh, and that "FX4" sticker on the bed somehow that makes it better I guess

Forgot about the skid plates. Fx4 comes with those too.

Oh yeah, you're right. My co-workers has a different wheel package on it. Mine were chrome and his were alloy.

I have a 2007 Supercrew 4x4 XLT. My truck has skid plates, I know because I banged them up last weekend in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

From these posts doesnt sound like a huuge difference?

In all Honesty, I wouldn't pay more for an FX4 if I were to buy a new truck today. Like I said, my co-workers and mine are almost identical except for some shocks, skid plates, and a sticker on the bed. His has the same rear end and gearing as mine too, both LS diff as well.

kinda the same as a chevy "Z71" package and a "4x4" package. Not significant differences. Now, Z71 packages don't even mean it is a 4x4 on some chebby's.

FX4 should have the bumpers that are painted the same color as the vehicle and the interior has the center console with the shifter in the console. The XLT has chrome bumpers and the shifter is on the column. The FX4 has nicer alloy wheels also. I find the FX4 to have a very sporty look. And of course FX4 is 4 wheel drive and FX2 is 2 wheel drive.
