Well the problem is, It's a ticking time bomb, in the few months till they come out with a fix, someone could be killed, then it's game over. Maybe just offer customers with confirmed faulty motors a chance to swap for a 5.0 or something. I'd just hate to see the eco kill someone.

I doubt it will kill anyone..power loss is no stranger to any car manufacturer. Could be worse, like brakes locking up and losing all control. Power loss can still get you to the side of the road just fine. The Ecoboost power loss actually doesn't kill your speed that fast. From what I've heard, it just coasts, so any driver should have plenty of time to pull over. I'm also sure that some Ecoboost owners wouldn't be too happy about a downgrade (not trying to start a war, but the 5.0 is a downgrade) to an engine with less power & in some cases not as good fuel economy. Just my .02.

My dad had an 07 Cadillac that had a full PCM failure and everything shut down. The steering column locked, power brakes were lost, gauges went dead etc. That was a dangerous situation, worse than the EB misfire, but we still got to the side of the road just fine on a busy road.

I guess you're right. Personally I prefer the 5.0 over the eco, I found the power difference pretty minimal in test drives and the fuel economy isn't huge but the 5.0 is a lot simpler, and I have terrible luck with trucks so any new design is terrible for me haha

Honestly if I had to get a new truck now I'd probably go 5.0. Better incentives and very good chance at having a reliable powertrain.

Well looking at the OP he's got one post and this is it. He came to vent and now he's gone and we now have EcoBoost Recall/Complaint/Investigation/Blog/Breaking News thread #3495321. It would of been better suited in one of the existing threads imo. I'm not here to down play his problem but it appears to be a "drive by QQ post thread"

LAWL!

My Eco runs great, BTW.
Selective editing... my point is that I am NOT diminishing this man's concerns. I"m supporting him.

And YES the pressure needs to be put on Ford via forums like this. Potential buyers scout forums like this before making a decision (I did) and this kind of information NEEDS to be out there to make Ford do the right thing.

I had an early release 1d MKIII Canon camera, it came with a focusing problem that people said for months was "user error". Had countless people fanboy canon and stick up for them. Ends up my $5,000 camera was defective and eventually over a year later it got fixed.

That was a camera, and pissed me off majorly given the cost, this can mean someone's life.

No excuse Ford not to engineer a solution and get it fixed NOW.

There are a lot of situations where loss of power is almost as bad as loosing brakes. For example: making a left turn and getting t-boned, accelerating onto the highway and the last second loosing power as the lane ends, evasive manuvers, etc.

Ford made such a big deal on how reliable the 3.5 is and when people started having trouble they just backed out. I'm not saying the ecoboost is bad, it's quite a good engine. But Ford could have at least given a loaner car to these people while the issue was resolved and not put the problematic vehicle on the customer hands.

If I had a vehicle that had vital systems cut out without warning I'd immediately give it back to the dealer.

Edit: And god forbid if someone has been killed, dead people don't talk.... doubt anyone would bother checking a salvaged vehicles data logger.

There are two things I hate in this world. Those with intolerance towards other cultures and the Dutch.

Sounds like offensive driving to me. Any vehicle is capable of losing power so drive conservatively and don't put yourself in dangerous situations.
