Front license plate

How do I get the black cover off, so I can put a plate on front of my 2014 F150 with Ecoboost?

if you are talking about that lower grill insert between the bumper pad things, you CAN take that out, but you're not supposed to put a front/middle license plate holder there ... it will block the flow of air to the intercooler (which is right behind there). That's why they side-mount the license plate on the EcoBoost models (on the driver's side bumper thing).

That said, it's your truck ... if you want to remove it, you have to open the hood and undo the two screws that hold it in place, then there are tabs on the other side that you need to be careful not to break when you pull it out. The factory front/middle license plate holder re-mounts in there the same way (basically).

Regardless, if you are removing that lower grill insert, I'd be interested in taking it off your hands. PM me if you want to... thanks.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear.. Its the black "cover" on left side..in front of driver that I want to get off and put a plate there.

ok, i see. Well actually, I'm kinda confused now again ... LOL

If you have an ecoboost model, doesnt the driver's side bumper thing already have the built-in license plate holder? All you need are the proper screws to mount the plate. You shouldn't need to take the bumper thing off to mount a plate on it.

No..you have to take the cover off..Maybe I could just pry it off with a screw driver..Just trying to find an easy way off..if there is one.

Interesting ... every type of license plate holder I have ever used only requires screw bolts (usually with both a hex head and flathead driver slot). Sounds like you're saying you need a nut/bolt assembly ...

See pic below ... is this NOT what you have?

Notice the two holes on the upper portion? The screws you use to screw in should be (for lack of a better way to say it) "self-tapping" ... as the metal threads of the screw will dig into the plastic and screw right in. You just slip the bottom portion of the plate into the grooves on the bottom of it first, then line up the holes and screw the two top screws in ... done.

The plate holder is NOT visible on the ecoboost. The cover in front has to come off in order to get to the holder and put the license plate on.

Guess I'll go to a local dealer tomorrow and let them take it off.

I just noticed your sig ... says you have a 5.0L V8 ... NOT an ecoboost. That explains the problem.

The normal bumper things (non plate holder style) come on the 5.0 engine models. The plate holder thing is a completely separate piece ... what you see is NOT a cover over the plate holder.

If you want/need a front license plate mount on the bumper, you're going to have to buy that piece and 'ditch' the one that's on there now.

Thanks anyway..I haven't had the 2012 5.0 v8 for a year.. I just bought the 2014 3.5 L Ecoboost couple days ago. I have changed and saved the Sig and Avatar info. but it does not show yet with the new truck info.
