No point in involving insurance or a shop on such an easy job. Disconnect the lights and unbolt the bumper. That's it.

I have a "Craigs List" man coming out today to fix bumper for $250. We'll see how this goes.

Good luck OP!

I've messed up my back bumper countless times on my '91 getting pulled out of mudholes. I've got backing into a tree down perfect to set the bumper back straight

Why isn't it? Read the original post. He ran into the back of a car. Unless he took off, his insurance is going up. If he can claim his truck at the same time, why wouldn't he? Please don't point out the obvious, I know it's not a difficult job, but if my rates were going up I'd be getting it fixed properly.

Yesterday "Craig List" man and son worked an hour. First they tried to straighten by jacking up bumper-did not work; second they tried to straighten by pulling bumper out with chain hooked to their car-did not work.

He says the bumper is too bent to be straighten and look decent, so he is looking for a new/used bumper for me.

Insurance is not an issure: the car I hit was not damaged to the degree that they were concerned so they said all is ok. I was very fortunate.

The estimate for full repairs w/new bumper, RT & LT upper and side brackets, bolts, mount plates and bolts is $1,006.

I have used this shop in the past and their prices are very competitive.

This experience continually reminds me to keep eyes on the road. Thanks for you help, all. I need to think about this a while, but will probably have it done by this shop.

My bumper it self wasn't bent just the brackets. I would make sure that isn't the case before buying a new bumper.
