02 lariat screw 4x4 here, 162,000 mile and nothing but maintenance items. Oh 5.4 by the way, if your looking in this era might as well get the 5.4 as it has more power than the4.6 and the mpg aren't much different. I too would stay away from the dodges in this era, everyone I know who has one has replaced the tranny at least one, some twice. Oh and I know the weight police might chime in here but last summer I pulled a 33' travel trailer 550 miles with zero problems with only a little struggle on long hills. These are great trucks if they are taken care of.

If I was doing Ford I'd look 2002-2003 or 2006-2008, they had some problem years for awhile with the redesign on their F150's
If your thinking about a chevy I'd do the 2003-2006, my friend just bought a 2006 chevy 1500 extended cab z71 4x4 classic package with 50k for $17,000, and it's alot nicer than I thought, considering I had never even driven one.
If your thinking Dodge I'd do 2002+, but I'd recommend the dodge the least.
Not sure about Toyota, I know they last forever though, go test drive each of them to see what you like best.
I would stay away from the 2004-2005 F150's personally.

Excellent advice right here IMO.

Damn son, I thought I was a little over loaded. Gotta admit these are some tough trucks. I put in a heavy duty trans cooler and I have a 2 speed e-fan and an sct livewire ts. That's a sweet tt.

I think my Dad's is an 02 also. He's in the buck sixty range. Been a great truck for him as well.
I hope my '14 is as good as his has been for him. Or as good as my grandpa's '83 has been.

If I only moved small trailers around a few times a yr, was in college, needed decent fuel mileage, wanted dependability, wanted something that looks good, holds resale, only need an extended cab....( I can go on and on with the list) I would personally buy a Toyota Tacoma 4X4 double cab.... just my opinion

Whatever you do stay away from Dodge. Pieces of ****.
I owned an 01 Silverado and loved it regret selling it every day, towed all my stuff from Southern California to Utah in a double axel trailer and had no issues with power or keeping up speed with most cars.
I love my 07 f150 lariat for sure though, never thought I would ever own a Ford after their awful cars abs suvs but here I am with no regrets
