Ford 2.7 Lion Diesel
Does anyone know if the old 2.7 Lion diesel V6 that Ford built for the Land Rover back in the mid 2000's has any connection with the 2.7 EcoBoost? A lot of the specs are almost identical.

Engine configuration & engine displacement
60-degree V6 engine, single- and twin-turbo diesel, 2,720 cc (166 cu in), bore x stroke 81.0 mm × 88.0 mm (3.19 in × 3.46 in), compression ratio 17.3:1Cylinder block & crankcase
Compacted graphite iron cross bolted blockCylinder heads & valvetrain
High strength aluminium, DOHC with four valves per cylinderAspiration
Single turbocharger or twin-turbochargers with air-to-air intercooler, electronically actuated variable geometry with transient over-boost capability, port deactivation systemFuel system & engine management
Siemens Common rail (CR) direct diesel injection, maximum injection pressure of 1,650 bars (23,900 psi), piezo injectorsDIN-rated motive power & torque outputs
140 kW (190 hp), 440 N⋅m (320 lbf⋅ft) – Ford Territory, Land Rover Discovery 3, Range Rover Sport
152 kW (204 hp), 440 N⋅m (320 lbf⋅ft) – Citroën C5, Citroën C6, Jaguar S-Type, Jaguar XF, Jaguar XJ, Peugeot 407, Peugeot 607
Even the construction is similar. With the timing cover off you can see that the 2.7 Lion also has a 2 piece block, with an aluminum frame under the CGI block.
Although, 1 big difference is the fact that the Lion has a timing belt, and it also doesn't have the square 3.27 x 3.27 Bore and Stroke that the EcoBoost has.

I can tell you this much:
Ford has never said anything about it being derived from a LR motor, let alone a LR diesel.
As far as Ford is concerned, it was a clean-sheet design.
It is weird, as far as I can remember it is similar to the diesel you posted here. Both share the two block materials(CGI/aluminum) and design, where as the 3.5 EB uses an aluminum block of a different design.
The two E-boost motors share NO parts with each other too
You'd think that some auto-journo would've sniffed it out though, but who knows...?
FWIW, the 3L PS diesel was taken from the diesel motor Ford supplies to LR/Jaguar. Or at least used to when they owned 'em.
