flying spark plug
Hello Happy Holidays,
This is my fist time on and i hope i can get some help to my problem. while driving home from baton rouge La. with about 177 miles to go then all of a sudden we heard what sounded like a belt broke or we ran over a garbage bag. it wasn't. had the truck towed to my dealer to find out that the number six plug blew out. waiting to hear what caused the problem. My question is has anybody had this happen to them and what was the cause. Thanks Don Baker. 2005 F 150 4.6 v8 that info might be helpful
I understnad that this is quite come on the 04-07 models. Suppoesedly they fixed it for 08. I'm hoping they did b/c that is the model year I drive. The problrm concernes the aluminum head, vibration, etc.
After a phone call from the dealer and $453.00 my truck is fixed. The sad part is that the service mang. could not give me a reason why. he said that he has only seen it one time before. i wasn't going into that i went on this site and there are posting about this problem. I asked for a phone number for cust. service and i was told that i would be directed back to the dealership and that my best bet would be to go on line to Ford. I did. i asked Ford for a reason. i said that for almost $800.00 i need to know why my #six plug blew out. the bal. of the $800.00 was the towing. still waiting for a reply Ford said it will take two days. All i want is a Honest answer for my $453.00. I don't think that is to ask. Thank's again Don Baker
Uh...because shiet happens?
Spark plug blowout isn't that uncommon. If you've been gearhead for as long as I have (40+ years), you've seen this a few times. This is common enough that there is a whole industry built around fixing the problem. Sorry to hear you had to pay so much, this is about a $20 fix if you are at home and have the right tools and time to do it.
When people change their plugs, a lot don't do it right. One should always use anti-seize compound AND a torque wrench to insure you don't have problems down the road.
Ford isn't going to tell you squat.
