Flowmaster - ROT?
I am going to be getting a new exhaust on my 08 STX.
I went to a custom shot in my town (dont want to put the name on here just yet) and I asked for a Flowmaster Exhaust quote. I told them I want dual pipes out the sides. They said they can do it for around $450 total but if I want a better exhaust I can use their Custom Exhaust kits that they put on all of their show trucks because they sound much better and they last longer because they are Stainless Steel. They told me the reason they try to turn people away from Flowmaster is because they ROT very, very easy and that if I got a Flowmaster I will only have it for about 3-4 years before it goes.
Is this a bunch of BS or is there some truth to this?

I had a Flow 40 that lasted about 3 year's before it rusted out. No salt on the road's down here but I run through sal****er that cover's the road's sometimes during high tides and that didn't help I guess. I went with a Magnaflow stainless steel housing that's been on about 2 year's with no problems with any rust yet.
They are just trying to sell you their kit...which is probably more expensive. My advice to you is to go on www.summitracing.com and buy your own mufflers and then just go to a muffler shop to have them mounted with pipe and all. My single exhaust only cost me around $200 total for me to buy the muffler, have the pipe custom bent and I bought an exhaust tip from the muffler shop too.
its not just flowmasters...its all mufflers that are raw steel as opposed to stainless. If you can afford it, stainless is the best option for durability. Stock mufflers are stainless (to my knowledge) and they actually seem to last quite a while.
Thanks for the input guys. I want to get a nice sounding exhaust and not brake the bank but i also want it to last more than 3-4 years.
Any suggestions on alternatives that sounds good and are SS and around the same price as flowmaster?
