Hey I bought some flares for emergency purposes but, I've never used a flare before. Do i just crack it open and strike it like a match?

theres a 2 part plastic top on it. take the top off, pop the lid off the top and strike the rough surface to the tip of the flare. it gets HOT AS SH*T!!! be VERY careful, it will drip melting phosphorous
