Question First time buyer

Hi all. I am excited to buy my first Ford. My dad and my grandfather were both huge advcates and always had trucks. Up until this point I have only owned Hondas with the last two being the ridgeline. Any suggestions/advice for what I should purchase? I live in Florida and I have about 22k to work with. I buy storage units at auction so towing isn't a huge concern as I typically can fit everything in the bed. I am not super attached to bells and whistles. I just want something reliable that I can maintain with as minimal incident as possible. Thank you for any and all suggestions!

I would suggest looking for a 4.6 2v engine. Think ‘10 was last year (that or 09). Look for 07-10. You’ll likely spend half your budget or less.

My opinion would be a 2X4 in any cab configuration that works best for your needs regarding passengers and bed length. The base 3.3 V6 engine with the 6 speed automatic is probably the most trouble free combination. You do not have hills or snow to contend with in Florida. We have several F150 trucks in our fleet that are 2X4 with base 3.3 V6 engines with over 200,000 trouble free miles. Want more giddy-up-n-go??
The 2.7 V6 with twin turbos is also a great engine option but the later years like my 2019 come with 10 speed only transmissions. The 10 speed transmissions overall is not a bad transmission but there have been a number of owners around here that have experienced issues with it. Ram and GM also have variations of this transmission so it is not just a Ford issue. Can't beat the proven six speed from years past.

'15-'17 3.5L/5.0L would be my choice with that budget.

If you’ve come from a Ridgeline, would you necessarily DQ a Maverick?

I mean…a 250 horsey EcoBoost and 4,000# tow cap doesn’t sound shabby if no huge towing need exists.

(It really should be the new Ranger.)

How much bed and cab space do you need?
