Default First Oil Change Question Conventional vs. Synthetic and When

Hi guys,

Getting ready to do the first oil change on a 2015 5.0 liter. Am at 7000km in 6 months and 56% on the oil life indicator. Was going to go to 10k and drop Mobil 1 synthetic into it with a Mobil 1 filter.

After doing some reading here is it too soon to go synthetic, should I go one more oil change on conventional oil.

Thanks

Never too soon and also when you are buying oil make sure it meets the specs as described in the manual. Oil manufactures print on the back which specs they meet or exceed.

I use penzoil platinum and it's highly touted as the best for these and other engines.

Nothing wrong with Motorcraft oil. But most importantly make sure what you buy meets or exceeds specs.

What's the concern with staying on conventional oil for one more oil change?

You do not have conventional oil in your truck. Read your manual.

I was reading another thread on the forum and it talked about people getting rid of the factory oil soon? and that it was conventional oil.

Trucks not here, so its semi synthetic? or full synthetic? in it now.

None, there is some banter about breakin, checked my oil the other day and it was at 1/3 rd up from bottom on the hatch marks, I think that's where it was when I bought it, not top full which I thought was odd or maybe not?

From the factory they have a synthetic blend, not conventional oil.

Your plan is sound. Go 10k and drop in M1 or other quality oil that meets specs.

I did it every 500o km, but since look at the percent oil life and change out at 25%, 6 months whichever I hit first. Not scientific but it works for me. Of course all of this depends on your driving style, climate and operating conditions.
