Oh yea, I did have a command start installed when I bought the truck. Could The Mrs have used it? Of course. But having the truck sit for a 1/2 hour or more while the freezing rain was trying to melt was not very practical.

Also, when The Mrs would gas up the truck, she knows to check the oil and other fluids. I have hammered this lesson home so many times, she just does this now, without question. How simple is it to just lift the hood, and take 30 seconds to scan around and check the oil level before taking off.

But with this truck, I had a plastic milk crate in the back of the truck so that I could check the oil level. The Mrs could lift the hood, but she couldn't check the fluid levels. Now, I must admit, small town mentality and there isn't a fella that wouldn't try to help a lady in distress... but then again, what red blooded man wouldn't want to look under the hood? Then if you were asked to touch it and do something to it... well... I am sure that you get the picture...

So, were back into the Freestyle where The Mrs can lift the hood and she can poke around, touch feel and see everything that need to be done to the car. It has a 3 litre V6 and of course, with this car being much smaller, when you open the hood, it is all engine. Since it has the CVT, there is no tranny dipstick. Easiest way to explain what a CVT is... a snowmobile transmission... there is no gears, hold the trottle down and it goes faster and faster and faster, without gears. You get max torque thru out excelleration. It really pisses off the youngsters that own those little Jap Cars at a stop light. I am sure you know these kids. Hell, you might even have one or two living at home. The light turns green and they race away. Well, that is until they meet this piece of unassuming hunk of Detroit Steel. There isn't any cherry bomb muffler making huge noise. The car is so friggin quiet, you hardly know it is running. But stomp on the gas... this car will do the 1/4 mile in 14.2 seconds. That is without any mods.

But put a step ladder next to my truck? Gasp! How dare you! Although I suppose it would allow her better access.

Mitch

The remote starter, as long as you remember to turn the defroster on with heat turned up full and full fan, should defrost windows in about 10-15 minutes. Not great for MPG but hey, it would save the Mrs. from scraping. Of course it does nothing for the other maintenance issues you mention.

Oh, and I can honestly say, none of my kids will ever, EVER own a Jap car while living under my roof.

Mitch - Sorry to hear you had to let the truck go back, but if the Mrs. isn't happy then you certainly aren't happy. My wife couldn't do any of those things either, especially with my truck lifted, so I had to buy her her own car to get around in. Of course I have the added luxury of living in a climate where my windows will never ice over.

To be honest I grew up in Ohio and don't miss the cold and snow one bit. About the only time I wear pants is when I wear my military uniform, otherwise it's shorts, t-shirts and flip flops.

OK, ok, I get the picture... I will try not to fade away into the nothingness...

So, wxmcpo, or should I say... Magnum PI... shorts, t-shirts and flip flops... as I look outside today, it is -11 C (12 F) and there is a light dusting of snow on the ground. I think that I will wait till the summer months to pull that one off. Here it is hoodies, jacket, jeans, touque and gloves.

I'm sorry to hear this Mitch. But like mentioned above it's a GOOD thing to keep your wife happy. Don't be a stranger here either!!

And on the snow side....I'm with you wxmcpo, everywhere I go it's shorts, t-shirt, and flip flops. Heck when it's cold I still where shorts, t-shirts, an flip flops but I throw a pull-over hoodie on also. lol

I can go visit the house from the show anytime here.

As I look outside it's blue skies and sunshine, it's almost 80 F and it's not even noon yet.

Sorry, not trying to rub it in.
