Default False oil level reading help

Hello everyone, I've just done a bunch of work on my truck, and everything is running great. The only thing I'm still scratching my head about is the oil level says low on the dipstick.

my truck: 2017 f150 v8 5.0 gen 2 coyote
capacity 7.7qts including filter oil
8qts with new filter to start, still low.
drained pan of 6.5 qts and replaced, didn't swap filter, still low.

I broke my dipstick tube when I was doing the work so I replaced it (don't think it's oem) I threw out the old one so I can't compare.
and I swapped the oil pan gasket too.

I put a new filter on, and put 8qts of oil in. Cold was just under the hash mark. Hot oil reads just barely over the start of the hash marks.

Curious if I should just fill er up to the middle of the hash marks (about 8.5-9qts) or leave the 8 in and disregard my dipstick?

Engine Oil Check

To check the engine oil level consistently and accurately, do the following:
  1. Make sure the parking brake is on. Make sure the transmission is in park (P) or neutral (N).
  1. Run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature.
  1. Make sure that your vehicle is on level ground.
  1. Switch the engine off and wait 15 minutes for the oil to drain into the oil pan.Checking the engine oil level too soon after you switch the engine off may result in an inaccurate reading.
  1. Open the hood. See Opening and Closing the Hood.
  1. Remove the dipstick and wipe it with a clean, lint-free cloth.See Under Hood Overview - 2.7L EcoBoost™.
  1. Reinstall the dipstick and remove it again to check the oil level. See Engine Oil Dipstick.
  1. Make sure that the oil level is between the maximum and minimum marks. If the oil level is at the minimum mark, add oil immediately. See Capacities and Specifications - 2.7L EcoBoost™.
  1. If the oil level is correct, replace the dipstick and make sure it is fully seated.
Note: Do not remove the dipstick when the engine is running.
Note: If the oil level is between the maximum and minimum marks, the oil level is acceptable.Do not add oil.
Note: The oil consumption of new engines reaches its normal level after approximately 3,000 mi (5,000 km).

If you put in the required/specified amount of oil and it's still reading low, I'd guess that your new dipstick is the wrong length. Overfilling with too much oil is not a good fall-back position! I suggest you take your dipstick to a dealer and ask the parts guy if you can compare it to one of the OEM parts.

It doesn't matter if the dip stick is wrong or right. Just repeatable.

Fill it with the correct amount and see where it is on the dip stick.

Go from there.

Agreed with above. Put in the correct amount, run for a minute. Let it sit for 15 min. Then re-mark your oil dipstick with the proper mark. A file will work well for it. And reme.ber the "correct amount" should hit the middle of the hash marks, not top or bottom.

Make sure the new dipstick tube is fully seated. Then like others above; fill to proper level and mark the dipstick with a file.

Did you use a thick gasket like the Moroso?
that would lower the pan in relation to the dip stick and it would look low

This is the most logical answer. Checking a dipstick's accuracy on a warm engine is a waste of time.
