I ordered my new Lariat on March 31st. From what I gather in about 3 weeks a VIN is assigned so I can track the build through Ford?

Now that 4 weeks have passed I went in to the dealer today and the sales mgr looked at their order sheet but didn't find my truck on it. I guess they get an updated sheet every Thursday from Ford.

Should I be concerned ? Did they F up and not order my truck?

The sales manager tried to tell me that it may have been a stock order rather than custom claiming stock would be quicker. He claimed to be able to pull some strings to get one in 9 weeks if it somehow wasn't ordered.

Advice or info would be appreciated....this time of year still 12 weeks for a build to dealer lot delivery ?

 

Did you ask them to show you the order? I had a similar situation where I placed the order in mid February and didn't get a VIN until a couple of weeks ago. They had a typo in the VIN they emailed me so I went in to the dealer and they looked it up and I saw it on their screen and the Order date corresponded to the day I placed it. They also showed me their stock and custom order list which showed all the vehicles they had ordered from Ford and mine was on there. Not sure if this is standard but it put my mind at ease.

 

They showed and made me confirm by signing a "vehicle order confirmation sheet" It basically lists all options cost etc and at bottom says "press F4 to submit". I only assume they pressed F4 after I signed off confirming the order.

The sheet I've seen at the dealer a few times lists vehicles on an old school dot matrix style printer with tear off edges type writer font. All the vehicles are numbers and some have last names instead of numbers which I have been told means custom order. I've never seen or been told anything about a VIN yet.

 

I didn't get a VIN until about 7 weeks into the order. Some have got them much sooner and others it takes awhile probably depending on what they ordered.

 

Ah makes sense . . . Was your build 12 weeks until delivery ?

Am I accurate once the Vin is assigned you can track the progress of the truck (build / transit etc)

 

Ordering can be like the luck of the draw. When I ordered my 2011 I got my vin# 6 days later and took delivery 34 days from the order date. Results may vary depending on what parts are available and what trim levels they are producing at the time. It's hard to complain about a 34 day turn around, but my truck was ordered, built and sat in a rail yard in Massachusetts (3 hours away) for over a week so I was still impatient knowing my truck was 3 hours away but it took another week to get it.

 

Well, It took mine 15 weeks?............I have an '11 Lariat Supercrew 4x4, with the 6.2, Max Tow and 3.73LS gears. I ordered her on Thursday Oct. 6th.'10. Dealer said 4-6 weeks. Yea, right? Just before Christmas I called and emailed Ford corporate after the dealer couldn't tell me much. I actually got a few emails and a call back from Ford. They said something about a parts hold up/back order on the 6.2 trucks. So....eventually I got a call on Sat. Jan. 15th.'11 from the dealer saying it just arrived. I was out of town that weekend, so it wasn't until that Wens. before I got a look at her. She was a sight! I took delivery on Friday Jan. 21rst.'11, 15 weeks after I did my special order. Actual build was Jan. 5th.. Hang in there baby! She'll get there and she will be worth the wait!!
