Default F150 is it a TCU or a TRANSCIEVER?

Stolen component behind pass side 2nd row seating, 2019 F150 XLT - what part is missing
When my truck (2019 XLT 3.5L) was stolen earlier this month, the thief removed something behind the 2nd row (passengers side) seat (see pic). I'm unable to find what
that component is after speaking/visiting 2 different Ford dealerships, each came up with something different.

Ford Svc Dept #1 - said it's a Transciever part# JL3Z-14G229-AK, they could not tell me what it does.

Ford Svc Dept #2 - said it's a TCU (Transmission Control Module) part# JL3Z-12B565-DNP, advisor could not tell me what this part does.

I hoped at least one of the dealerships would know what they're talking about. I'm not sure how to proceed, if someone could advise me with a sense of certainty I would really appreciate it.

Not seeing a photo...

Sounds like the first one was on the ball, the second one swung and missed (truck doesn't have a transmission control module/unit, that function is built into the PCM).

The TCU is the Telematics Control Unit (TCU) which is the cellular modem (transceiver).

Thank you for your reply, not sure why you couldn't see the pic, I just checked and it's there. Anyway, per Ford the TCU part# JL3Z-12B565-DNP is described as a "Transmission Control Unit" ... not a "telematics control unit", I agree that the missing part is a modem, now to track down the correct part#.

Based on the information you provided, it seems that the missing component could be either a transceiver (part number JL3Z-14G229-AK) or a Transmission Control Module (TCM) (part number JL3Z-12B565-DNP).

A transceiver is a type of device that is used to both transmit and receive signals. In the context of a vehicle, a transceiver might be used to communicate with other electronic components in the vehicle, such as a key fob or an immobilizer system.

Just to note, that is not for all cases in this generation. There is a TCM (transmission control module), on some applications, mounted on the frame near the transmission. You will find it referenced in the service manual where it also notes some applications use a TCM in applications that don't have it in the PCM.

The F150 that is the subject of this thread is not one of those applications that has a TCM. [Edit: see below.]

According to the parts manual, there is an application for a 2019 3.5 F150. Some of them are mounted on the frame rail behind a protective plastic cover.

I'm not totally sure which ones have and don't have one, but they do exist on some that aren't part of the PCM. It's not just the parts manual that reference this external TCM, it's also in the service manual.

Good catch. It looks like the gas/diesel turbo-equipped engines use the external TCM. Didn't look all the way through the schematics first time through ...

In any event, the TCM isn't mounted on the rear wall of the cab for the 2019 F50s that have them so it doesn't apply to the OP's concern.

So now because people can't afford the parts or the parts are unavailable... they steal a truck, and rip out the parts they need for themselves?

Ha! In some cases they do just that, and will invariably cannibalize most of the truck to maximize return. My truck was stolen, after which I (and FOMOCO) were unable to communicate with (locate) it leading me to suspect that the modem was not in service. I never expected the transceiver would be completely removed in unfashionable order. Thieves, what are they good for ... absolutely nothing!
