Default F150 4.2 engine

Engine mileage is 167,000
I have been unable to stop the valve tapping.
I had new hydraulic roller lifters installed, and the engine cleaned out, but that hasn't helped. I am using a synthetic oil 5w30 (recommended) and at one point I switched to 10w30, I even tried Lucas additive. I change the oil every 5,000
I haven't changed the rocker arms yet, but I am thinking about it, I might change the pushrods also.
I have read that this is an engine noted for the valve noise, but it kind of concerns me when people ask if I have a diesel engine in my truck.

Yeah, sounds like worn push rods and/or rocket arms. I'd try just changing the push rods first. They can get worn down and cause an awful racket. Not sure about yours but some engines (like the chevy 2.5) are notorious for it. New push rods will probably stop the noise but if you still get a tick or two you'll have to replace the rocker's too.
