Default F Series recall

The news tonight was reporting there may be a recall of Ford F series trucks 1997 to 2001 apparently the fuel tanks are falling out of them, the straps holding them in are rusting out. Right now there is an advisory to check out the straps to make sure they are not getting ready to let loose.

When i had my 2000 F150 2wd a local ford dealer gave me the straps for free. Put them in my self with no problems. This was maybe 3 years ago. The rear strap was almost gone and the front was almost as bad. NE Ohio winters are hard on stuff.

Any word on the 02, 03 and 04 heritage? Seeing that they are the same generation F150's wouldn't they be included in the possible recall, or did they change something in after 2002?

I looked at the National Highway Traffic Safety site at the investigation and it is for 1997 to 2001. From what I can find out the strap was not changed, at least the dimensions of the strap, until 2003. All it would have taken to prevent this problem was to galvanize the part, and that maybe what they did. Ford must have known about this problem. If you put in broken fuel tank straps as a search topic all if the F150 Forums have thread after thread discussing this problem.

If you kept a receipt then you may be able to get the money.

Now if they would issue a recall on the spark plugs blowing out on the Triton heads, that would make me very happy.

Got every receipt since the day I bought it in 2002. I like to keep a paper trail on my vehicles incase I ever sell them (the next owner usually appreciates seeing service records etc). It's like the life story of the truck.
