extended warranty questions
Hello to All,
My 2104 F/150 3.5 EB that I purchased in May 2015, just hit 36K.
I've not been an extended warranty person, and I usually do drive my vehicles over 100K [115-125K max], so I was contemplating looking that the 5 yr-100K plan.
Based on your experience w F-150 EB's, how many of you bought the plan and used it often vs those that did not and either was glad they didn't buy or wish that they did?
Is there any particular criteria that could better aid me in making a good decision? Any questions, pls let me know?
Thanks and Merry Christmas, tstex

Typically, you would have had to purchased an ESP before the factory warranty was expired.
You might still be able to get one, but your truck would likely have to undergo a vehicle inspection, and it would be much more expensive at this point than it would have if you had purchased the ESP early in its life.

Thanks Greg. It has 36,136 miles on her...You would think that they would be glad to still sell you one bc they have the op to examine your truck and take or deny via an informed decision.
If something was wrong, then they would make you fix it [generates revenue for them] and it also takes truck back to A1-Status, thus putting the roll of the dice back in their favor,

I would like to see input on this topic as well. I'm only interested in the power train coverage and it seems too pricey. Just for 2 extra years of coverage it's nearly 2K. I can get a slightly used entire transmission for $1200. I have a 5.0 engine, my guess is any major issues are gonna show up early on or way past the ESP period. They obviously have actuary calculations to make a profit on the ESP or they wouldn't sell them.

There are at least 2 Ford dealers who sell ESP plans on line. They are very aggressive in their pricing. I suspect they make their money selling ESP plans based on volume rather than price of the plan.
I got mine through Ziegler Ford in Michigan. My plan was $1,255 and it was the Premium plan for 84 month, 100k miles. I had 8200 miles on the truck when I bought the plan. For some reason many local dealers will not deal. They want to make a killing of the plan sale. Heck, I went back to my local dealer to let him match the price. He almost laughed at me.
In any case, I have saved about $700 so far since my throttle body failed a couple hundred miles after the 36k basic warranty was over. I'm hoping I have no problems going forward, but if I do, my plan will have paid for itself.

I'm mainly concerned w the big ticket items...if it's out of warranty and Ford wants to play hardball, then I can always go to a local independent shop, buy quality parts and let him do the work that involves either the tools/equipment I don't have and the heavy lifting.
One thing that has always worked for me is to send the President and the COO of Ford a Certified Mail RR letter on any issue I feel is their fault. You'd be surprised to see the response you get...I think it's the last 3-4 line paragraph I leave them that gets the action. This entails a "If you fail to do the right thing, then I will be compelled to let all your major competitors know how you treat your customers. For some reason, they don't want that and bend...

Everything in these trucks is big ticket, one a/c compressor fails that's about $1,500 with incidentals that must go with it, any one of the many computer modules and you're looking at $500^ I have 13 comp modules in my xlt, the more bells and whistles more modules.
If you care to spend the extra to get a CPO that's the only way to fly, aftermarket warranties are spotty at best.

Yes. Get a warranty. I paid $1200 for mine. So far I am up to over $5,000 in repairs. My sunroof by itself was $1,100.
