Error messages while towing
I have a 2023 F-150 Lariat (3.5L Ecoboost), with tow package, that I bought new in Aug'23. Every time I tow with my 5' x 8' open trailer, I get multiple error messages in the main info display like:
- Trailer Disconnected
- Trailer Lamps Left Side Error
- Trailer Lamps Right Side Error
Any idea why this is happening? I'm using a 6" adapter (from Amazon) to connect the trailer wiring harness to the truck wiring receptacle. Without the adapter the trailer harness isn't long enough to reach the bumper.

I connected the Curt wiring harness adapter to the truck, then connected a tester to the end of the harness. I cranked up the truck, cycled through left and right turn signals, then cancelled turn signals and applied the brakes. You can see the appropriate LEDs light on the tester, so this seems to indicate the harness adapter is good.
Another curiosity - when the trailer is connected to the truck through the harness, the trailer lights operate correctly.
Someone mentioned using dielectric grease, but my understanding is that product is not intended for the electrical contact pins, but instead, is for the rubber boot around the connector. So I don't understand how that would affect this problem.
I can't connect the trailer directly to the truck due to the drop between the truck receiver and the trailer tongue.

I will sometimes get the trailer disconnected message on my dash. Pretty worrisome the first couple of times. It seems the female trailer plug is not a perfect fit, not the truck plug. On my truck, jiggling the plug cures it. I would make sure the ground wire is in good shape since all your lighting goes bonkers.
