Default Engine temp threshold too low

I have an 07 trton 5.4 lots of miles but we'll maintained can't get the cooling temp above 130. No codes but it did have the pending low threshold temp well I cleared it no codes since but cat and evap still not green. Dang thing is running spot on. LTFT bank 1 and 2 at -.7 and -.3 solid.

How are you reading your coolant temp (scanner, infrared temp gun, etc)?

If I was in your shoes, I would first try to confirm that that 130 temp reading is valid (use an infrared gun and check as it warms up). If it is, then I would next pull the tstat and test it in boiling water. If it isn’t a 190 motorcraft, that’s what I’d get.

curious what you’ll find?

Ok so my idiot brother whom I took the vehicle from removed the thermostat. Got a Stant 195 and that solved the underheated problem. Genius that he is, he said he took it out because the gauge was reading high. I verified the temp with scanner live data and infrared.and it's working fine -runs at about 190. Although as expected, the LTFTs increased as it's a) old with 300k miles. And b) see also (a). Not bad tho - at +5. This vehicle has always been well maintained right up to where he got it 2 months ago. Oil changes at 2500, etc. I'm still trying to clear the cat part of smog check. Do I need to run freeway as well for drive cycle?

This could help:

The cat converter monitor process sound kinda involved.

This is where I would plug in my scanner and let it tell me when monitors are ready and it’s “LFG!” time to pull in for inspection.
