Engine difference 2005 5.4 v8 triton vs 2016 version?
Hello F150 forum…. My first post….. in “inherited” my step sons ‘05 XLT with 5.4 L V8 Triton motor. However, Ford (dealership) did an engine swap for him back in 2016. The newer engine has all same labels (that I can see) thus….its also a 5.4 l v8 triton?
my question(s) for the forum is:
was this normal for ford to do? Recall? Due to spark plug and cam phasers on the “bad” models?
what differences do I need to know about the newer engine? My search features here need to be for 05 when I’m searching general stuff, but 2016 searches for engine info……that correct?

I’m sure they put in a reman as that engine didn’t exist in 2016. The latest model that had the 5.4 3v would be a 2010, but they used the 6r80.
He either had some extended warranty or paid out of pocket as there wouldn’t have been a recall on an 11 year old truck at the time for engine issues. That’s not a safety issue.
They all can suffer from cam phaser issues. That was never fixed or changed.

Thx 2008xlt
so if was rebuilt (i think your right) what changes did they make ?
My son did say he did not pay for it, so it must have been under some type of extended warranty. Knowing that, my guess is the dealership would have done the minimum to “fix” it ? Any ideas what the fix would be?

If they did an engine swap you have a 5.4 with much lower mileage. Don't over think it. Just treat it like you never knew the motor has been swapped. Cam phasers and plugs need to be changed from time to time anyway.
