Engine died when driving
Hey, I'm new to this site and this is my first post.
I have a 99 F150 with a 4.6L, 2wd with approx 130K miles, this truck is stock except for aftrermarket radio and fog lights.
The other day when I was driving home from work the engine died while driving down the road.
I tried to restart it and the engine would turn over but would not start. This is the first time it has ever done something like this. After about 10 minutes of trying to restart it I had it towed to my house.
Once I got it home (about 30 minutes from the time it died) I tried to start it and it fired up with no problem, there was no check engile lite and it ran perfect.
I haven't been able to find anything wrong that would cause it to shut off like it did, does anyone know what may have caused it to shut off then restart about 30 later???
Any help would be greatly appriciated.
Jeff

Really could be anything. My first thought would be a crank sensor. Sensor gets hot and shuts down, restarts after it cools down. But.... pretty much any sensor or even a fuel pump would do the same thing.
Youll have to get it to die on you and then check to see if you are missing fuel or spark, then diagnose from there.

My ranger did the same thing. Ended up being the fuel pump shut off switch. I left it on the side of the road, did some research and went back to the truck. Ends up I have a reset button near the passenger foot well. Pressed the reset and that was that.
Good luck,
Alex

Thanks for the info,
When this happened the other day it was 105 degrees and I had the AC on. The water temp was within normal range when this happened.
So I'll do some troubleshooting when this happens again.
Thanks again.
