Effects of LT tires
All,
I'm in need of a new set of tires. As my use is 99% road and I don't care about looks anymore, I'm going to go with the Michelin LTX m/s2. My quandry is whether to go with the LT or the P.
I do tow occasionally with my F150. My trailer maxes out around 6000 lbs, with about 800# tongue weight. So we are close to the rear axle ratings when hooked up. That said, the P rated tires give me adequate load rating, but I wouldn't mind a little extra cushion.
I know that LTs will make the ride potentially worse and hurt my mpgs a bit, both of which I do not want to do. So the question is, to those of you who have switched, how much was the impact? Minimal, barely noticeable, or significant?

LT tires will make the ride a bit rougher, cost a little mpg since they weigh more, but they won't change your axle ratings.
On the plus side, they will also abate some of the wallowing of the rear end on downhill switchbacks when towing a trailer.

Thanks frieed. I know they wont change my axle or payload ratings. I guess by extra cushion I just meant more tire under the truck so to speak.
I guess I'm really just curious if anyone has gone to LTs and noticed a big difference in ride or mpg.

I dumped the goodyears for Michelin LTX M/S2 LT275/70R18E tires.
As I said, a little rougher ride but not a ton. When corrections are made for change in tire size, I lost less than 1/2 mpg (based on the truck computer)

If you tow get the LT tires. They are more stable when cornering or changing lanes.
