I have a confusing problem with my 1997 ford 4X4 PU I have just replaced the thermostat, and the sensor on the right front of the intake manifold, water temp. sensor I believe. I can leave the truck running of an hour and it will show the temp at 0 degrees then I take it up the road for a mile and all of a sudden the temp gauge jumps up as far as it can go and at the same time the oil light comes on and in a min or so the computer shuts the engin down to only about 20 miles per hour. The truck is full of water and oil and the gauge shows that the oil pressure is about 45 lbs. Has any one ever experienced such a problem.

Possibly a faulty instrument cluster.
