Ecoboost and high mileage ???

That's normal, it is never exact, thus making your MPG's off also. My F150 was always off about a 1.5gallons ..My 14 SD is also off about a gallon from readings..

You got it! The dummy gauge is exactly that..For dummies..I would love to know the exact set up on the F150 they tested and where and how and everything to come up with 15/21 17 ave.. Surely wasn't done with a MaxTowEB with the 6.5bed..no way did I ever see anything close to 21 on highway..

Consider this; the only way to calculate true mileage of any vehicle would be to put it to a test with optimal conditions. Wind, terrain, temp., etc...
Also the test would only be accurate if the vehicle were constantly moving at a set speed thru out the entire test. Then compare the numbers of miles driven by gallons used from the point at which the vehicle came up to speed, until the point of which the vehicle dropped off the speed at which the vehicle's mileage were consistently calculated from.
All that being said, I like to call it approximate miles per "used" gallon simply because of the real life variables with which each case is measured. You have engine start up, idle time, stop and go, traffic signals, etc... You get the idea.
So try to remember these things are all to be considered when the numbers you see on the vehicles window sticker. And remember the phrase, "Optimal Conditions".
For my personal driving habits, I average in the neighborhood of 17.5 miles per used gallon of fuel. At an average highway speed of 65mph, and under normal driving conditions which are highly variable.
Its alot to equate, but if your looking for Manufacturer accuracy, then you really might choose to research exactly how that Manufacturer performs its testing.
For myself, I have always been a truck admirer. Only until recently have I been able to get back into a truck. With all the great offerings of body style, and now the ECOBOOST offering, I am back in the seat again.
Enjoy your truck.
