Default Ecoboost engine carpeting

Got my new f150 Krown rust treated the other day. Guy showed me a piece of carpeting mounted below my engine. He said most people take it off because it won't likely last long anyway. I left it there for now, figure ford put it there for some reason? Question is does anyone know what that reason is?

I think this acts as a oil leak collector orrr actually aids in pulling air through the radiator/intercooler orrrr adds downforce so you can power out of whicked slides :P

I have the same thing on mine. No clue.
