ECM and TCM "learning"
I have been reading about how the ecm and tcm "learns" your driving habits but I have yet to figure out what the computers do with this information. I have a 2010 4x4 Lariat that I have driven very lightly while breaking in the engine but I am starting to go to my normal driving style and was wondering if I messed up by babying it for the first 3000 miles. Just what do the computers do with the information and should I have the dealer "reflash" the computers so that I can start driving my normal way so the computers "learn" my normal driving habits?
Any insight on what the computers do with this information and just what do they control with the info they learn? Any insight would help.
I apoligize if I am in the wrong forum as I am new here.

It is my understanding that the flash memory used for storing the information gleaned from your driving habits is pretty 'volatile', meaning it isn't stored for long periods. This means if you granny it, your truck will respond accordingly and if you Jimmie Johnson it, it will quickly change to adapt....like within 25 shifting cycles. If you browse various other forums, you'll get similar answers. The Mercedes guys say it is 40 shifting cycles, for example.
Good post, good question.
Good post, good question.
only thing i can add, i am now on my 3rd learning sessions.
what the ecm and pcm are looking for / or learning how you accelerate and brake.
so the truck can then determine just when to allow the shift points due to your habits.
i can say is stop and go traffic, jack rabbit starts and stops, towing, loaded or hauling all seem to f### with the learning of your habits.
my trans is shifting like a pile of junk! so every time i take my truck in for the slip bump or 1 to 2 hard shifts thay tell me use it for one type of driving? so if you tow only tow with the truck, if you pamper it only use it as a pampered baby, if you Ricky rocket it only drive it like that as it will only learn one style of driving and all other styles of driving will screw with you pcm and ecm to the point you'll need to get it looked at
i was also told ford has a group of people looking in to the problem and it my take a year or to to get fixed! WTF is that horse ******? if i was not so up side down in my loan id go get a chevy or dodge at least that way ill be willing to accept the fact it ant wright from the factory.
sorry for the rant thanks
