Default ecm swap

Lately I've been alittle dissatisfied with my edge evolution programmer. I've been trying to find a good full control tuner that's compatible with my 01 5.4l screw. I want full control of the ecm, fuel maps, spark maps, ect... I currently have hptuners. I love using it and have professionally tuned many cars with it but it's not compatible with the 97-03 generation f-series truck. Although 04 and up, it is compatible with. The way I see it I have two options. I can find and purchase a full control professional tuning program that is compatible with my truck, or I can try swapping an 04 heritage (still uses the 2v engine) ecm in place of my 01 ecm. As an experienced mechanic the swap would be relatively easy for me, I believe. What do you think?

I don't think they are compatible, you have to take into account other systems that use the pcm like trans, abs, srs, pats etc........

Well I'm not hard set on swapping the ecm. I just want full computer control of it. So a good program like hptuners would more than suffice. I just can't find one. All I find are the "canned tune" units. If u know of a program that gets me access to all of the fuel, spark, 'VE, etc... maps I'd love to know about it.

http://www.sctflash.com/products.php?PID=43&VID=#1 along with an sct tuner sounds like what you want. You can buy it here http://www.summitracing.com/parts/scl-4332 or any other dealer, a quick google search turned up a bunch of others.

I have an sctx4 for my truck but not that tuning software, I use custom tunes from 5* and MPT.
