The easiest way to pull the code is with Forscan. There is an option under the tools tab to read the code. Most Ford's have a sticker somewhere in the vehicle. Usually its near the in cab fuse box, on the cover or somewhere in that area.

So is Forscan something used a lot? I have heard it mentioned several times now from subwoofer addition to door code help. Is there a version that is better than others? I'm seeing like 100 generic ones on amazon.

Been there, done that. You have to have both FOBS for it to work. As stated above i only have the one. Might have to go the FORSCAN route.

Do some more research on YouTube. Depending on the year of the vehicle, the code is located on a printed sticker somewhere in the truck. Some are behind the back seat, some are on the passenger fuse box.

Forscan is a free software program that mimics the Ford IDS program. You can do so many things with it and will save you some cash. You can also reprogram modules with the extended license, which is also free. I purchased this OBD reader from amazon: OHP ELMconfig Forscan OBD2 Adapter with MS-Can & HS-Can Switch for Ford DIY Diagnostics on Windows https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F0GVBWY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_xWOFCbQJMQEFT

I prefer the wired version since I heard the Bluetooth versions can be unstable or cause issues.

On the previous generation it was on the passenger side fuse box/BCM.

Yeah depending on the year depends on where the sticker lives. They bury it on purpose I know later models like 2007 its behind the back driver side rear seat which is an utter PITA to remove. Forscan is a little intimidating at first but if you aren't changing any codes it's just reading information like the one you are requesting. For $29 the cost of the connector you can save yourself quite a bit of hassle.
