does a performance chip increase gas milage
im thinking about buying an edge products evolution CTS chip or a flashpaq from superchips for my 2004 f-150 i was looking for some input on this and i was wondering if the chips will increase fuel economy
It is going to depend on your other modifications and if the tune takes them into account. Just to put a chip in an otherwise stock truck would yeild minimal results and take 10's of thousands of miles just to reach the break-even point.
In general, mod for power not MPGs. Take the money you would have put towards mpg mods and stick it in the gas fund. I know that advice isn't much fun, but being practical isn't always fun.
Other than that, welcome to the forums! Stick around.

Don't bother tuning for MPG... you will spend more for the tune than you ever would in gas savings.
Instead, tune for power on cheap gas... the MPG loss is nominal, but makes the money you spend for gas more well worth it.

Don't forget the BIG medical expenses if one wrecks in an econo-box. $1,000,000 in surgeries to replace a face, or the expenses of being in a wheelchair for the rest of one's life make the cost of gas driving a safe vehicle (IIRC, F-150 and Tundra are the safest vehicles on the road today) more than worth it.
Does anyone have any information on the above chip? It is listed as $69.00 and I am concerned that it will not perform. I drive 90 miles a day to and from work so MPG are important to me but I don't want to waste my money or have a long term payback like the evolution cts chip and the like.
Thanks
Thanks
