fram and motorcraft are exactly the same filter.

I use a 10-40 syn blend Shell Rotella, I love the stuff a gallon cost like 13$ at Walmart.

it should be noted that not all engines require the same oil, If yours says 5-20 like mine I wouldnt be putting 10-40 in it. I know lots of older ones called for 10-30. use whatever weight your cap/manual recommends.

Yeah do this at your own risk. My manual calls for 5-30 but I don't care. I have been running Rotella Syn Blend in my past 3 rangers, my F-150 and my CBR600RR. This **** is great, granted all the trucks also had over 100k miles on them. I works great for me and my trucks, on the F-150 it quieted the motor down a bit.

Also I use 5-30 in the winter time and only switch to the Rotella once spring hits. I just did my spring time oil change yesterday.

fram(the same as Motorcraft) is crap but a lot of guys use them, they have cardboard filter media and a really bad anti flow back design.

Either use a supertech (yes this is walmart brand and I use these on everything) or use a Purolator Gold from Advanced auto. But honestly I don't care what you use.

Since I got my truck with 160k miles already on it I run castrol 5w-30 GTX high mileage and a fram tough guard filter

What is your basis for saying that Fram and Motorcraft are exactly the same?

I note differences in the two, to wit: shape and number of holes is different, the anti-drainback valve is shaped differently, on the Fram Extra Guard the anti-drainback valve is hard black rubber not silicone like Motorcraft, one can look inside the two filters and see other differences. I do notice, in the ones I looked at, that they both are made in the USA.

Without details to support the statement that they are the same, I have to believe they are not. I use Motorcraft with OCI 5000 miles.
