At Dealership - 3.31 Ratio Axle versus optional 3.55 ratio limited slip axle
Looking at 2013 F150 STX Supercabs with V8.
One dealer has 3.31 axle vehicles. One has 3.55 option vehicles.
How much of a difference does it make? I will do occasional towing, but not huge boats or trucks (would tow like a bass boat).
I would rather have the 3.55, but I dont know if it matters much. The dealer with the 3.31 is about $400 cheaper (plus the $350 less since it doesnt have the optional axle) and the dealership experience has been much better.

I'd spend the extra few bucks for the 3.55, that's what I did. Maybe see if the 3.55 dealer will drop the price a bit.

The 3:31 will give you a little bit better mpg then the 3:55, but the 3:55 will give you better towing power. 3:55 is a very good all round axle ratio for towing and fuel economy.

Thanks guys. The sales guy who was at the dealer I like told me he was going to check the rest of the lot and see if he could find a 3.55. He did find one which included the other options I wanted (not that many options with the STX). So I got a STX Supercab with 201A package, carpet package, 5.0 V8, and 3.55 axle. Not fancy compared to what alot of people get, but it will meet my needs well. It is red. The one at the other dealer was silver (all things equal I would have gotten silver just because it is easier to keep clean looking). However, I saved $500, had a better dealer experience, and I actually like the look of red a little better.
Thanks for you guys help. Helped me decide to stick with the 3.55 which encouraged the sales guy to walk around the lot looking for one.
Now I just have to go through financing (required to get a $2000 rebate).

the 3.31 needed a little bit more "umph" to up to speed and into 6th gear (would rev higher in each gear--and stay in each gear longer-- until it got in 6th), and lets say 50mph. - - I had a 5.0 with the 3.31
the 3.55 get up to speed faster, and is in 6th before you know it. (now have a v6 with 3.55)

Go with the 3.55's man. I like mine. Rode in a friends with 3.31 and didn't like it. Felt sluggish and didnt have the pull like the 3.55's. I'm actually wanting to go done to 4.10's
